Double patterns. Timelines.
Aka helix. Around late April, I watch some recordings of DNA strands. Honestly, I couldn't tell if it was an animation or a microscopic image. It just was extremely cool. The power of repeating patterns. Language. Bindings. Forming the double helix. These patterns lead to our DNA strands. Our proteins. Our cells and the rest spanned over the timeline to create biology. Life. Thinking. Breathing. Beings.
So amazing that DNA is so close to binary and digital computers. So close to language. So close to words. I reflected on this over and over and over for weeks.
Until it went into the background of my mind as an active buzz that picks up anytime sounds prompt its file to open up and I think about it for a little bit. Weeks move. Weeks turn. About the time when I was writing about negative space, it was a background noise. I felt strongly that negative space was important. However. I didn't know why. It had no application I could use in any of my activities. It did serve in one way to bind concepts together. And have a weight and tone in my mind.
Its interesting to see how my mind works as I am writing here. How it all lines up over my own timeline. The rush I feel reminds me of that shark in "Finding Nemo". It just one of those things I delight in, its useful, fun and productive. I don't go manic, but it is inexhaustible in that it is everlasting. I constantly find joy in what I am doing.
Which writing about this fact is important. As I will move through time a little. The skips in the timeline will illustrate the meaning I am conveying.
Let's go to late May, early June. While I was reading, I took some time to try something new.
I logged into my computer. Open up a coding editor, and took a screen shot.
I knew that, with my health at the time, a half an hour to 50 mins or an hour was my limit. There was no real motivation to screen record for videos. As I did not want to exhaust my energy. However, I thought, why not a screen shot? Why not take a photo of my screen, of what I am doing, with what I am writing. So I did.
Every few minutes, I took a screen shot of my coding, web browser and even drew illustrations of what I was thinking.
When the thirty to fifty minutes were up, I went to the first photo, and went down the line like viewing a timeline. Holy Guacamole. That was serious lightning going through my brain. It was exciting. Absolutely silly. Absolutely plain, but empowering. When I logged in the next day, I went through the photos again. Then added more photos while I was working. Then reviewed the whole timeline at the end of the session. From the first photo to the last. Sometimes twice. Then the next day as another review before I continued working.
As I was reading my novel or book series, I started to feel a kindle of excitement that lowered the time I was checking out from the world. When burn out happens, I can predict, based on what I feel, how long it will take to turn things around. And I am usually correct in my assessment. It has happened too many times, and I began to develop an intuitive sense of my own disconnect. And I have learned different ways to decrease the time of burn out as I want to be part of the day of the living. Part of the sunshine. Part of the joy people have. In my both own solitude and with other people who I care about.
Towards the end of the reading hiatus, I tried this with gaming. I opened up my handheld, started playing games, and as I played I alternated between snapping a photo or recording the 30 seconds of gameplay. Then, at the end of each gaming session, I watched the clips, and felt connected. In my chair, I went from playing a game for only an half an hour, to five to six hours within one sitting session.
I love playing games, and this method, has opened up the flow inside my own mind.
Even today. When I play games, I still snap photos or clips. And I still review them.
Over June and into the middle of July. I thought of these records along with all the other ideas in my head.
Why would recording make a stressful thing so incredibly fun? Video games used to be exciting as a kid, but when I tried to play again as an adult, I just felt stress. All the time. I used phrases like "beginning" that made it very much easier. However it never lit the magic as before. Now it is again. Could it be that I am all about records instead of language? They are so closely related, language and records, that it was hard to understand what I was feeling. Or seeking as an person.
I went through the quite the deep journey of exploring the topic and connecting it with language, or communication. I think, this is what sparked the negative space concept, and finding symbols for my three synesthesia. These things felt related.
And then it happened. My health got so much better. I got help with one of my health problems. It has allowed my body to dedicate more resources on healing my physical strength.
I wasn't really expecting much this summer. However, I got my wish here in August. And I will take it.
Which brings me to late July and early August.
Binding.
I started out with moving away from Ubuntu Linux. As I wanted something I enjoyed. I wasn't happy with their decisions on the distro, so I explored a different distro to run my home base on.
I installed Pop OS. As of course, the desktop is using Rust language. Its core is based off of Ubuntu, so it wouldn't be that much of a change.
Except, I didn't feel right in the operating system. That is when I went to Bazzite. And I began to use containers and distrobox.
Immutable. That is a familiar word. I just felt at home in Bazzite. I discovered that one way to work with SELinux without messing around with policies, is to install the chromium based browser through containers with distrobox. And I found happiness.
Just with the idea of environments that are isolated blocks for software. I started learning podman commands, a little more bash scripting and began to setup environments. I eventually learned that for shared files I needed to pass :z instead of :Z when attaching volumes from my directory to the container. As those are the flags that SELinux sets for files. And since I already did some projects with ':Z' I used AI to learn what command to reset those markers on the file.
Suffice to say. I am very much happy with containers and the immutable desktop. However, I wanted a mutable system for the time being. But I didn't stop using containers. I very much have adopted it as infrastructure for software development. I may be slightly late at arriving, but here I am.
Now I am on Fedora KDE. And I love the system better than I did with Ubuntu. As DNF is so much better feeling than apt. I am an heavily intuitive based thinker. And logic and feeling mix highly explosively all the time. So when all the facts line up, I am not quite sure why I know something, until, not surprisingly, I write about it. And I get all the information out and organized. Allow my sound sense and time sense to combine with mirroring, and it is there pretty and clean. Well organized.
Well defined.
Which is important to me as I love the clarity. It is what completes the set. Two halves. Bound and binded.
Now. Let's return to negative space.
Yin and Yang. Cycles. DNA. Helix. Patterns. Language. Memory. Records. Two halves. The writer and the reader. The moon and the earthly tides. The conductor and the music. Rest and beat. And dare I say it. Beauty and the Beast. Every where. You can see cycles. Every single dang thing. It is the flow and ebb of writing. As writing is patterns mixed with emergence. Or emergence with self-similar.
Honestly I am still exploring this. But it feels right. One half has its pattern sets filled in, but it has certain aspects, its incomplete. And this incomplete pattern has negative inversed space. Instead of a pattern it is an signature. The signature states what is required.
A strand of repeating patterns. However inside the strand has pattern markers that are incomplete. And instead it has an signature. And a standard, or protocol, that expects a binding. My sound sense sings with these binding points. And the mirror sets the communication between the bind points. As two halves, or two incomplete patterns, merge as a double helix. Completing the pattern for each half.
To create good information signatures, I need to compress and polish in this mental model. I need to write standards of what the negative space expects. And what information can be exchanged when the binding occurs.
Through this model, I can do so much. I can connect a key and value like in a dictionary or map, or I can create list where a value and an index. I can match structure with intent through this model. It gives me so much peace. As the structure, the double helix, allows both self similar and emergence together. Into one space. Where two halves can work together.
With my time sense, it lives at the macro level. While the signature is at the micro level with just one set of two halves, my time sense is at the complex level. I literally can follow the threads as binding happen across levels. I literally can sense information flowing between different bindings.
Both non-linear in motion, and linear as time. The more strands I add, the richer the image. Which brings to another concept at play.
Snapshots. Records. These parts are literally snapshots. I am combining snapshots as yin to yang. Images with a repeated cycle within its own timeline. I don't need to create information from scratch.
I bind snapshots and have them communicate, as they are, through language. Meaning I take records from my mind, the raw image, so to speak, I grab the photo, find the negative spaces, learn the signature and combine with signatures of 'photos'.
The binding is the layer of communication.
As vague as it seems, I am changing directions a little.
I thought I would take a snapshot, grab my journal, and write to extract. As my mind cannot separate details from the snapshot. I need a tool to clone parts of information on to an medium. Then I can use separated material. My mental model has changed.
Now I take a snapshot, take the image, find the negative space, and bind directly through that negative space.
And the binding is a communication layer. I am weaving language between the binding. And having the snapshots communicate.
The binding communicates and transfer information. And that information is what I extract. Its a lot like chemistry. The reaction is the language between the bind points. And that energy travels through the threads. As I follow them.
However. It demands a skill. To create better snapshots. The clearer the image, the more modular the bind points, and the better signature there is within the negative space.
For example, I have taken this approach seriously. I have created a notebook, through open source Joplin, and I have created sub notebooks where I am learning Rust again.
Not that I have learned the whole language in the first place, but I am going back to the beginning. I am taking snapshots of each feature of the language. And I am writing about how I could combine two halves together with bind points, and hear them sing in my mind. Then use language to communicate with these features, or having the binding be the symbols of my words that then are language as I code.
Layer and Formations. Language through bind points, folding two halves together through structure through binding. Again. Self-similar. Emergence. Structure. Change. Richness.
The cycles continue. They fold. They are the same. Yet different.
Two statements. Connected. Linear order non-linear information. I write in a repeating pattern that is incomplete. It is predictable. However the emergence happens through what is binding those bind points in the repeating cycle.
It is predictable. Autism. It is unique. ADHD. It is enriching. Connection. Happiness. Feeling. Drive. Dreams. It enables less context switching. I can build what I imagine. It is extensible. It is expansive. And the concept itself, will evolve as I learn.
For example, tonight, I had epiphany. I am going to savor, and digest, and have fun learning and exploring the adventure of life.
